Sustainable Development through Sustainable Tax Systems

A pile of coins from which a plant sprouts.

To be sustainable, taxation needs to be result oriented, transparent, fair, and efficient. The International Tax Compact (ITC) strifes for that purpose. Since 2009 the ITC has worked to strengthen tax and development initiatives by supporting and facilitating their networks, knowledge sharing, and cooperation within as well as across many programs. As such, the ITC provides secretarial service, serves as a network builder, and acts as an incubator for new projects with logistical and advisory support. Thus, it creates the possibility for constructive synergies between many actors and programs, even on the international level. And as times change, so too has the ITC adapted to the changing priorities in the global context of tax and development by adjusting its profile, administration structure, and working modes.

Currently, the ITC facilitates the secretariats of the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI), the Network of Tax Organisations (NTO) and the DRM Innovation Fund. It was commissioned in 2009 by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).
