Basic requirements
Technical skill set
- CSS
- HTML5
- PHP
- MYSQL
- JavaScript
- WordPress: How to install, how to setup, how it works (themes, plugins, posts, pages, user management)
- WordPress maintenance: How to update WP core and update plugins, how to create ftp and database backups in general
- Key decisions to be made are when to update, when to search for additional information, when to ask a WP community or contact the plugin’s developer or when to suggest an alternative WP plugin due to certain reasons (e.g. compatibility problems, outdated versions, discontinued services, security flaws)
Project communication
- Timely responses via email, e.g confirming that the task has been understood, confirming/updating timing or asking additional questions
- Critical thinking: If Plan A does not work, please suggest Plan B if possible
- English communication skills
Optional requirements (not necessary, but would be a plus)
General
- Experiences with building “light” websites (reduced loading times, getting rid of unecessary scripts or plugins, achieving a good performance score)
- Experiences with SEO
- Experiences with cookies & opt-in / opt-out
- Experiences with analytics
- Experiences with hosting configurations (e.g. cPanel)
- Basic knowledge of European data protection law (EU GDPR): how to use cookies for embedded video streaming, web trackers and social media
Regarding WordPress
- Experiences with translations (e.g. WPML)
- Experiences with page builders
- Experiences with community features (e.g. BuddyPress)
- Experiences with security optimizations
Advanced requirements
- API / XML
- User groups / User management
- WooCommerce
- CDN / Cloudfare
- Cache optimizations
